Four freelance female artists, one vision. That is the collective now!, founded in the summer of 2023. At their monthly studio meetings, they exchange ideas, deepen their artistic practice, and share their resources. Even outside the studio, the collective inspires one another through joint visits to cultural events and exhibitions. As part of the “LOST” art exhibition at the Baliere in Frauenfeld, the collective now! is creating new paintings and sculptures. At the heart of their work is an exploration of the tension between loss, the past, disorientation, and the process of starting anew. In Barbara Sterkman’s work, the hare-kangaroo meets the Rocky Mountain grasshopper. In the “LOST” exhibition, Barbara Sterkman breathes new life into long-extinct animals or evokes fleeting moments between people. A way of dealing with what is irrevocably lost. The result is a series of moving large- and small-format works with a highly distinctive style and visual language. Clara Andrés presents large-format works and serial fragments dedicated to the theme of loss and the act of losing oneself. Through a dialogue between material and context, she creates a reality all her own, underpinned by a precise compositional balance. Her unmistakable, multi-layered, achromatic paintings are created using organic and mineral materials. While the paintings exude a dark, powerful heaviness from a distance, a surprising sensitivity unfolds upon closer inspection. Marianne Zehnder’s works reflect what has been lost and what has passed. She explores this theme through complex, profound, and subtle color combinations and, at times, a powerful mode of expression. Her paintings arise from spontaneity and reveal her joy in experimentation. Traces of various techniques and materials are consistently visible in her works. Bitumen, acrylic paints, chalks, and pencils are her preferred media. Anita Bollag’s fascination lies in bringing inspirations, ideas, and themes to life through creative work in the here and now. She models and shapes expressive figures from clay, imbuing them with a unique, vibrant spirit. Some of the figures are fired using the raku technique, while others are colored or left in their natural state.
