The plague rages in Verona. A bitter civil war divides the city. Romeo and Juliet face this world of threat and mistrust with the power of their feelings. They firmly believe that their love can change everything. The reinterpretation of Shakespeare's masterpiece focuses on a society in a state of emergency and in the middle of it, two young people who do not bow to it. The drama is complemented by texts from bestselling author Mithu Sanyal, who brings the material into our present. With this story of a radical, daring love, Bernadette Sonnenbichler opens her directorship at the Theater and Orchestra Heidelberg – and we seamlessly continue the good cooperation with this partner theater.
