Roman Forging

Description

The reconstructed Roman forge on the Vindonissa Legionary Trail is fired up every Saturday. With hammer and tongs, visitors experience authentic Roman blacksmithing in groups of two.

Under the guidance of a Roman blacksmith, a stylus is made from iron. Before or after forging, a Roman writing tablet is built independently from wood and wax. Two people are required per forging workstation; advance booking is necessary.

Minimum age: 12 years (persons under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult)

General Information

The Roman Forging event takes place every Saturday at the Legionärspfad Vindonissa in Windisch, Switzerland. Participants work in pairs to create a stylus from iron and build a Roman writing tablet from wood and wax. Advance booking is required.
