Description

Schumann's Sonata op. 105, written in 1851, belongs to the final period of the composer and concentrates a great expressive urgency within a compact form. Brahms's Sonata No. 2, composed in 1886, is brighter, more singing, and reveals the composer's art of dialoguing violin and piano in perfect equality. As for Beethoven's "Kreutzer" Sonata, published in 1805, it remains one of the most famous works in the repertoire, due to its grandeur and almost concertante virtuosity. Renaud Capuçon, a major figure in French violin, and Mao Fujita, a pianist with both precise and poetic playing, approach these three sonatas as a journey through the 19th century.
