The Piano Concerto No. 2 by Brahms, premiered in 1881 by the composer in Budapest, is one of the great monuments of the Romantic concerto. Its grandeur, four movements, and the special role given to the cello in the third movement make it almost a symphony with obbligato piano. Adam Laloum, laureate of the Clara Haskil Competition, finds an ideal ground for his art of phrasing, nuance, and breathing, while Robert Treviño highlights the structural solidity and nobility of the discourse. Dvořák's Symphony "From the New World," composed in New York in 1893 and premiered at Carnegie Hall the same year, blends memories of Bohemia, popular impulses, and American impressions. The Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra brings its precision and experience of the great symphonic repertoire to this program.
