In honor of the 100th birthday of John Coltrane, his son, tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, offers a special gift: with "Translinear Light II," he will perform the music of his mother, Alice Coltrane. Named after the album of the same name that they recorded in 2004, three years before the extraordinary pianist and harpist's passing, who made jazz history with her albums like "Journey in Satchidananda" and her fusion of Indian sacred music and improvisation. The intimate meditative dialogue between Ravi and Alice Coltrane will be performed again, this time featuring the outstanding Grammy-winning harpist Brandee Younger – on Alice Coltrane's original harp. They will be accompanied by a high-caliber trio with pianist David Virelles, bassist Robert Hurst, and Wynton and Branford Marsalis's longtime drummer, Jeff "Tain" Watts. Touchingly tender.
