Description

Write an essay about the most important composers of classical piano literature, each of their works heard at Rafał Blechacz's recital surely deserving its own chapter. On one hand, Johann Sebastian Bach, who laid the foundation for all subsequent piano music with his compositions for keyboard instruments. His collection "The Well-Tempered Clavier," consisting of preludes and fugues in every major and minor key, is among his most famous outputs. Blechacz will perform excerpts from this collection as well as one of Bach's six French Suites, which were not actually composed in France but point to the elegance associated with French music at the time. On the other hand, Blechacz's compatriot Frédéric Chopin will be featured, including his four Mazurkas—traditional Polish dances made popular through Chopin's piano arrangements—and the second piano sonata, which contains the well-known Funeral March.
