Description
When the magic of tones prevails…" these words from Beethoven's "Chorfantasie" have been chosen as the headline for the Motettenchor Lörrach's second anniversary concert. Powerfully resonant and full of vigorous harmonies, Beethoven here celebrates the power of music and singing.
"The magic of tones" is especially perceptible in Mendelssohn's colorful setting of Goethe's ballad "The First Walpurgis Night," a fascinating composition with remarkable text, rich in vocal and instrumental effects. The young composer Elisabeth Fußeder incorporates Mendelssohn's setting of Goethe in her commissioned work for the Motettenchor Lörrach and brings it into the present.
Together with Brahms' "Schicksalslied," this anniversary concert celebrates music, especially singing, as an inexhaustible source of joy and happiness.
