Description
Pierre-Laurent Aimard, one of the most important pianists of our time, meets Beethoven, Bartók and a new work by Beat Furrer. An evening concert full of sound fantasy, tension and musical discoveries. With Pierre-Laurent Aimard, one of the most prominent pianists of our time is at the center of this program: an artist who combines classical masterpieces, modernity and the present with keen intelligence and unmistakable sound fantasy. Together with the Basel Chamber Orchestra and Pierre Bleuse, a bow is drawn from Beethoven to the present. The opening is a new work by Beat Furrer, winner of the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize 2018, conducted by the composer himself. Bartók's suggestive Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, commissioned by Paul Sacher for Basel in 1936, leads into a world of night sounds, rhythm and glassy tension. Beethoven's fifth piano concerto sets the radiant, large-scale final point. Pierre-Laurent Aimard, piano
