The exceptional concert Oiseaux de passage combines Natalie Dessay and Philippe Cassard in a journey where the figure of the bird becomes a pretext to traverse French melody and musical comedy. The 7 Melodies by Chausson, notably The Hummingbird, open a universe of poetic refinement inherited from the fin-de-siècle symbolism. Ravel, in his 3 Songs and their famous Three Beautiful Birds of Paradise, demonstrates his mastery of line and timbre. Poulenc, with Queen of Seagulls, or Beydts with The Stabbed Dove, extend this imaginary towards irony or melancholy. The pages of Menotti, Barber, and Previn finally broaden the panorama to the Anglo-American lyric scene of the 20th century.
