Description

Thebes is doubly afflicted: a pandemic and a severe drought threaten life in the city. All eyes are expectantly on the king, Oedipus, who has once saved Thebes and is now to free it from misery again. But gradually it becomes clear that Oedipus is the real root of the evil – stubborn, self-righteous, and blinded. Sophocles' "Oedipus Tyrannus" tells the story of a man who wants to be king but is incapable of self-awareness. Instead of bringing clarity to the city of Thebes, he leaves destruction, suffering, anger, and grief to it and his daughters Ismene and Antigone. The production was invited to the Berlin Theater Meeting, and the actresses were awarded the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring.

General Information
