Description
Science, technology, and progress, but also the search for the spiritual and soulful became driving forces for an art that was entirely reduced to lines, colors, and shapes. To this day, abstraction fascinates us in its diverse manifestations.
At the center of this exhibition with around 60 works are three significant new acquisitions by Carmen Herrera, Wassily Kandinsky, and Mark Rothko. Surrounded by other paintings and sculptures from the collection, they illustrate three different styles of abstraction – detachment from the object, geometric construction, and color field painting. With their transnational biographies, these artists also demonstrate that abstraction has always been a global movement and still is.
Curated by Karin Schick, Director of the Hilti Art Foundation.
