"You my dearest treasure!" – Love letters through the ages

Description

The love letter is more than paper and ink. It carries hope and longing within – and the quiet request for a reply. It reflects personal feelings as well as societal ideas of love, marriage, and partnership.

The exhibition follows the traces of written love, from its early literary forms through the 19th century to the digital messages of today. A moving letter from 1844, tender postcard exchanges, artfully designed love messages, and literary testimonies show how people remained connected across distances.

With every line, it becomes clear how language, expression, and means of communication change – yet always serve the same purpose: to create closeness. What remains is the courage to write down love.

General Information

The exhibition at the Liechtenstein PostMuseum in Vaduz shows the development of love letters from their beginnings to the present. Selected letters, postcards, and literary testimonies reveal the connection between people over the centuries.
