Reading and discussion We look forward to the performances of three of the five nominated authors for the Swiss Book Prize 2026 at the Luzern City Library: Hayat Erdoğan, Hauptsache kein Zeitgeist (Claassen Verlag), Sonja Sophie Kreis, Das grosse Eis (Rowohlt), and Sarah Elena Müller, Unwucht (Limmat). "With this year's shortlist, we embark on a search. The five nominated novels focus on the hidden and sharpen our perception of what is often invisible: motherhood on the fringes of society, the inner tremors after an earthquake, old-age poverty and precarious work, cold within a family, as well as dependence and powerlessness in a romantic relationship. The authors circle around the questions: What do we recognize? And how do we remember? They explore the possibilities of storytelling as well as those of conscious non-storytelling and confidently utilize the scope of literature alone. The nominated works not only showcase diverse realities of life but also the linguistic and stylistic range of contemporary Swiss literature." – From the jury statement SBP.
