Founded in 1932, it is one of the most traditional ensembles in Southwest Germany. Its hometown, Konstanz, where Lake Constance and the Rhine meet, shapes the orchestra: a certain cosmopolitan openness, a geographical and cultural closeness to Switzerland and Austria, which can be heard in the string players' musicality. The concert at Stadthalle Singen is a home game in the best sense. The orchestra knows its audience, and the audience knows its orchestra. Gabriel Venzago, chief conductor of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, is one of the most remarkable conductors of his generation.
