Heinrich Heine's incredible work includes prose, dramas, travel reports, newspaper articles, verse, essays, and critiques. However, he is undoubtedly mainly remembered as a lyricist. The song evening Just HEINE is dedicated to this multifaceted figure with the musical settings of his texts – including both well-known works and rarely heard compositions. A poet who moved the world.
Bitingly ironic, distinctly European, highly political, and cosmopolitan – all of this was Heinrich Heine. Through his unmistakable style, he modernized German lyric poetry and remains relevant in his themes to this day. In a unique way, he combines apparent opposites in his poems, such as grandeur and triviality, pathos and comedy, but always creates a lightness without losing depth. No other poet has triggered such a flood of musical settings as Heine; to this day, over 10,000 are counted. This shows that he was already very famous and popular during his lifetime. His works were not only highly regarded in the German-speaking world but were also early translated into English, French, and Russian, among others. To this day, he inspires contemporary composers like Jörg Widmann and Wilhelm Killmayer to compose songs. This is what Just HEINE is about.
