The installation artist Iona Bartschok retreats to the Leipzig Neuseenland after one of her most important works was damaged. She seeks distance, quiet, a new beginning. But then her dog Bella runs to her, and shortly after, Nova, the combative niece of the landlord, stands at the door. And as the rain floods the streets, life pushes back into the hall. Martina Hefter, awarded the German Book Prize in 2024 for "Hey guten Morgen, wie geht es dir?", combines language with movement as a dancer and performer. Her new novel (Klett-Cotta) tells with a stubborn lightness about retreat and responsibility – and about the power of unexpected encounters.
