Whether long, short or shaved, smooth or curly – hair is much more than a matter of style. They tell of beauty and desire, of power and helplessness, of conformity and rebellion. Hair is a powerful means of expression – politically, religiously, culturally, and personally. With them, we declare belonging, shape identity, or captivate others. The exhibition at Kunsthalle Munich invites an stimulating, sensual, and surprising journey through three millennia of art and cultural history of hair. About 200 exhibits from antiquity to the present show the influence that the seemingly everyday can have.
