Tomás Saraceno. Interwoven Worlds

Description

Tomás Saraceno (born 1973, San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina) combines art, architecture, and science to envision possible eco-social futures. The exhibition presents his central research projects Aerocene and Arachnophilia, as well as a new, collaboratively produced commissioned work developed together with Indigenous communities from Red Atacama in Las Salinas Grandes in northern Argentina. Their ongoing fight against lithium extraction and the associated disruption of vital water cycles in the region serve as the starting point for an artwork that extends beyond the boundaries of the exhibition space. At the Haus der Kunst, these ideas materialize in the form of air sculptures, habitats for various species, and environments that require new kinds of attention. Together, the works offer a platform to rethink the forms of coexistence between humans and non-human beings. They also stimulate a broader dialogue about the ecological and social forces shaping the global energy transition. Involving numerous contributors who design the installations and the program, the exhibition transforms the building into a space for planetary resonance. It invites visitors to experience the house in a different way. In dialogue with other programs, it shows new ways in which we can perceive, imagine, and live within the interconnected systems that sustain us. Curated by Sarah Johanna Theurer and Andrea Lissoni.
