Description
In their new project, Matthias Brandt and Jens Thomas dedicate themselves to the work and the complex personality of Robert Schumann. As with hardly any other composer, artistic and biographical elements are intertwined in his life. His mental instability, recurring depressive episodes and states of 'complete nervous exhaustion', the fixed idea of going insane – all of this undoubtedly reflects in Schumann. Matthias Brandt and Jens Thomas, who have achieved remarkable success in recent years with programs such as 'Psycho – Fantasie über das kalte Entsetzen' and 'Life – Raumpatrouille & Memory Boy', stage this phenomenon in an individually designed collage of words and improvised music. Nothing seems fixed or routinized in these evenings. While Brandt makes the nerves of the audience vibrate, Thomas improvises fittingly on the piano – a fascinating play of text and sound that juggles with the emotional depths of the characters.
