Description
Such a moment is what one wishes for – that one, life-changing moment. Björn Meyer played guitar in a punk band, was just starting a computer science degree when he struck a string on a standing electric bass. This tone opened up a universe. Meyer, born in Stockholm in 1965, completed his studies but then focused solely on the electric bass, and to this day he continues to discover new facets of this instrument. Meyer, who has been living in Switzerland for 30 years, played flamenco, was part of Bazar Blå, worked with Asita Hamidi and Anouar Brahem, developed the collective RONIN with Nik Bärtsch, founded the trio Amiira and the band NEN, and is part of the quartet of Simin Tander. In 2017, he recorded his first solo album for ECM, and his second, just released, is called "Convergence," recorded with a six-string bass and produced by Manfred Eicher. His influences include Anthony Jackson, Alan Holdsworth, and Carles Benavent. For young musicians, Meyer has become a role model.
