Following the performance, a conversation with Joachim Lux. Mark Twain's "American Dream" of social ascent paradoxically occurred with and through his sharp critique of the "American Way of Life," slavery, and racism. And of course, with the invention of two world-class characters: Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Since his death in 1910, the Mark Twain, who became world-famous through "Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn," has been tirelessly traveling through the galaxies of the universe. Leaving behind the gates to paradise and even heaven, his spirit merges with the very earthly Ulrich Tukur and travels with him through cities, telling people about his adventures and leaving surprising greetings from the afterlife.
Mark Twain's humor is accompanied by the popular music of his time: ragtime, the fusion of European march music with black music, a precursor to jazz. Ulrich Tukur: "Mark Twain was modern back then and still is. He had a very good heart and was a very, very sharp observer of human nature. I believe he was a great person. He is always funny, always disrespectful, always a humanist. Today’s America could use someone like him." Rising to fame through collaboration with theater director Peter Zadek, Ulrich Tukur — also through numerous films and television — is one of the most well-known German actors. Previously engaged at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, he has long been associated with the St. Pauli Theater. Afterwards, it will get very personal: Ulrich Tukur and Joachim Lux will talk about Mark Twain and America, but above all — surprise — about their shared bloody beginnings in the theater world. And they look forward to reconnecting in Hamburg: 45 years and a whole theater life later! Let’s see what comes to light…
