Inspired by 18th-century music, Stravinski's Pulcinella suite opens the way with spirit and elegance. Then, Shostakovich offers a deeply introspective Violin Concerto No. 2. Finally, Brahms, in his Symphony No. 4, reaches a peak of German romanticism drawing inspiration from Bach, notably perceptible in the passacaglia of the fourth movement's finale.
