With his satirical cabaret, Luca Maurizio takes the audience on a journey between the rapid changes of our present and the simple world of Bergell in the last century. Inspired by thinkers like Yuval Noah Harari and Thomas Piketty, he combines their ideas with his personal background from a world where hard work, modesty, and respectful use of resources were everyday life. There, terms like circular economy or sustainability were unknown – they were simply lived: with rusty nails that were straightened again, with sheep's wool turned into sweaters, and with an old cow that first pulled the hay wagon and later was bid farewell at the table – chewing on its tongue, rib, or last tail vertebra. The piece is a humorous and loving plea for a confident and courageous vision of the future. Starting from our ancestors, it addresses today's AI-influenced global political conditions and finds surprisingly spontaneous and wonderfully unconventional food for thought. Sensitive retrospectives alternate at a high pace with creative ideas, challenging both the thinking and laughing muscles to the utmost. Will Homo Humus cheerfully lose himself in virtual realities and at the same time celebrate nature connectedness with esoteric cowpat rituals? Is the colonization of Mars in a vacuum, minus 30° cold, stormed by solar storms, actually the more pleasant future scenario than staying on Earth with vegan hiking boots and consciousness-expanding humus therapy? About Luca Maurizio:
The Grison cabaret artist and satirist Luca Maurizio grew up on the Maloja Pass, at the border between Italian, Romansh, and German, between the luxurious holiday paradise St. Moritz and the modest life in Bergell. He has been awarded several times for his diverse works, including the Grison Literature Prize in 2021, thanks to his “poetic songs and his sharp satire of our society.”
