Description

The program brings together three major works that give the organ a symphonic place. Gabriel Pierné's Les Paysages franciscains, inspired by the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, offers a finely colored writing, between meditation and narrative momentum. Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3, created in 1886 in London and dedicated to Liszt, remains one of the monuments of the French orchestral repertoire; its organ is not a soloist but integrated into the overall architecture. Poulenc's Organ Concerto, composed in 1938 and premiered by Princess de Polignac, combines gravity, humor, and fervor in a unique work of its kind. Jean-Luc Thellin and the Orchestra of the Haute École de Musique de Genève, conducted by Guillaume Tourniaire, present this triptych from the perspective of dialogue between orchestra and organ. The program also highlights the versatility of the grand organ of the Music Hall, an instrument that is both symphonic, soloist, and orchestra partner.
