Lecture-Concert with Christian Zacharias: «From Couperin to Poulenc, from Madrigals to Edith Piaf» The renowned pianist and conductor Christian Zacharias draws a fascinating bridge between the eras in his lecture-concert. Although François Couperin and Francis Poulenc are separated by about 200 years, they are united by the French tradition of elegance, clarity, and dance-like lightness. Zacharias recalls in his lecture concert, full of shimmering joys and tempting surprises, Poulenc's admiration for Couperin's art and the music of the French harpsichord school. Poulenc incorporated these influences into his own works. The touching improvisation 15 (Hommage à Édith Piaf) serves as a modern reminiscence, dedicated by Poulenc to the Parisian way of life and the singer.
