Kohlhaas An evening with Bernese youth based on the novella by Heinrich von Kleist in a version by Dorle Trachternach and Joanna Praml Michael Kohlhaas is angry: At a border, his well-fed horses are taken from him under flimsy pretenses. What Kohlhaas suspected later proves to be true: The entire process was unlawful. But that's not all. The horses were almost killed and his servant mistreated. Kohlhaas wants justice! Instead of support, he encounters a corrupt legal system and begins a revenge campaign that escalates violently. When Kleist wrote the novella Michael Kohlhaas at the beginning of the 19th century, he had a historical injustice case in mind with the merchant Hans Kohlhase. But regardless of the century: people want to be heard and taken seriously! After the success of Frühlingserwachen, the team around director Joanna Praml returns to Bern and asks Bernese youth: What makes us angry today? How does a rule of law work? Who sets the wheels in motion and how does it turn into a revolution? What is the difference between civil courage and civil disobedience?
