Description
Baroque meets metropolis, structure meets freedom: In "Kontrapunkte," the Tübingen Saxophone Ensemble combines the sound worlds of Johann Sebastian Bach, the New York minimalist Moondog, and the jazz classic George Gershwin. Johann Sebastian Bach's music has influenced generations of composers. Strict forms unfold into surprising harmonies, pulsating rhythms, and an engaging inner energy. Moondog, the "Viking from 5th Avenue," approaches musical order very differently: his hypnotic canons bridge to the present, precisely constructed yet full of swing. Another counterpoint is set by George Gershwin: in his legendary "Rhapsody in Blue," he merges classical architecture with jazz, blues, and urban lifestyle – music full of elegance, wit, and rhythmic sophistication. The Tübingen Saxophone Ensemble was founded in 1997. Its lineup includes the full range from soprano to bass saxophone, complemented by two percussionists. With its diverse repertoire from Baroque to Romantic to contemporary influences, the ensemble has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Vienna Musikverein – now it is a guest at the Augustinum stage!
