Description

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the Neckar Music Festival presents a piano evening in the Wolfsbrunnen concert hall that is sure to pique curiosity – without spectacle, but with clear edge. Giacomo di Tollo (*1981) from Ortona on the Adriatic coast presents a program that juxtaposes two centuries and two very different views of music history: Franz Liszt and Frédéric Chopin on one side, Alberto Savinio as well as contemporary composers Martin Münch and di Tollo himself on the other.
The evening begins with Martin Münch's harpsichord suite op. 60, twenty poetic miniatures of concise, transparent form, followed by Chopin's Étude op. 25 No. 7 in C-sharp minor, which combines technique and elegy.
The focus is on Alberto Savinio (1891–1952), painter, writer, and composer, who, as brother of Giorgio de Chirico, significantly shaped Italian Surrealism. His suite Les chants de la mi-mort was created in 1914 as a piano version of a theatrical poem of the same name; between "L'homme chauve et l'homme jaune" and "Abdication," a music of mysterious, sometimes vivid color unfolds – a repertoire find rarely heard in this country.
After the break, listeners encounter Münch's meditative sonorities op. 54, five neo-impressionist musical images of quiet contemplation, before Giacomo di Tollo bridges to Luigi Russolo's noise music of Futurism with his own work Intonarumori, Balilla e Tosti. The finale is Liszt's brilliant paraphrase of Verdi's famous melodies from Rigoletto.
The evening is organized by the Verein piano international eV in collaboration with Wolfsbrunnen Kultur, supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Stuttgart; it is part of the 2026 festival program.
