Description
The words of an Advent cantata are the motto of our concert. Georg Philipp Telemann published this work in 1725 as part of a series of sacred cantatas. It became known throughout Northern Europe and made him one of the first musicians to earn a living from selling his compositions. Most of the other composers featured in this program were in court or church service. Heinichen's career, for example, took him via Venice, where he met Antonio Vivaldi, to the magnificent Dresden court of Augustus the Strong, and Christoph Schaffrath was court harpsichordist to King Frederick II of Prussia. Under the motto "Lauter Wonne, lauter Freude. Pre-Christmas music from 18th-century Germany," soprano Johanna Falkinger and the L’Orfeo Bläserensemble conducted by Carin van Heerden will present cantatas, triosonatas, and works for harpsichord by Georg Philipp Telemann, Christoph Schaffrath, Johann Mattheson, Christian Ludwig Boxberg, Johann David Heinichen, and Christoph Graupner.
