Description

On December 1, 2023, Jeanne Spaeter leaves Bern and ventures into a city she doesn't know and where no one knows her. She takes nothing but a plastic bag containing three pairs of underwear and the 'Friteuse' protocol she wrote herself. The goal of the protocol? To completely deconstruct and rebuild the identity of JS in five steps. How? By going to Brussels for six months to sell fries. This sociological long-term experiment is documented entirely through audio recordings, texts, photos, and a collection of objects. For «Friteuse», performer Jeanne Spaeter once again opens her multimedia archive and guides the audience through a dizzying balancing act between the familiar and the foreign, between reality and fiction. After her first performance «Love under Contract», which explored societal norms and conventions around love and partnership, she now dedicates herself to the concept of identity construction. In an empirical and plastic manner, Jeanne tries to understand, literally through her own body, how malleable identity is. Is it possible to deconstruct and rebuild parts of it?
