Description

The noble lady Marie Eggerin safely guides through the dirty streets of Solothurn - next to the manure heaps, pigs and chickens frolic in mud and dirt. Diseases are therefore common. It's high time to pave the alleys! The people of Solothurn lived dangerously and full of uncertainty. The knights lost their protective role and became robber knights. During the two sieges by the Habsburgs, Solothurn is defended standing on the battlements. But how do you do that? How heavy is a chainmail? Thanks to the foiling of the night attack on the city by the farmer Hans Roth from Rumisberg, Solothurn could call itself a "free imperial city" years later. Not only the Basel earthquake shook Solothurn; the ravages of the plague also claimed countless victims. Solothurn was then rebuilt in stone. Whoever owns a stone house is "stone rich." In the countryside, barter trade is known. The townspeople of Solothurn now buy bread with bracteates. The church has less and less to say because the citizens of Solothurn develop their self-confidence and long for rights and protection. The citizens come together and form 11 guilds, which from now on govern the city and take on many public tasks. These 11 guilds are the basis for Solothurn's sacred number 11! This period also marks the shaping of the Solothurn territory, which corresponds to the present canton of Solothurn. But the Middle Ages, besides much misery, are also colorful and full of joy of life. Nothing shows this better than music and dance, which express the unbridled joy of life of the people of Solothurn. The evening ends cozily with lady Eggerin with nut and bacon bread, medieval spiced wine, Läckerli, and honey-sweetened herbal tea.
