From the contemporary poetry of Kaija Saariaho to the Nordic legends of Jean Sibelius, the mysterious and the beauty of the great boreal forests are revealed throughout the program. Echoing these visions from the North, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique,” reveals an emotional turmoil, between passionate outbursts and fragility.
