Description

Richard Wagner
Prelude from Die Walküre, WWV 86B Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 5, op. 67 Johannes Brahms
Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, op. 102 Soloists: Eva Schall, Violin
Ognjen Milosavljevic´, Cello
Conductor: Timothée Methou Ludwig van Beethoven brought the Viennese Classical to the peak of its development and thus paved the way for Romantic music. His work has a lasting significance in all musical genres in which he composed. In our autumn concerts, besides Beethoven's 5th Symphony, you will hear works by two composers from the next generations, who represent very different positions; Johannes Brahms, who expanded the boundaries as a representative of High Romanticism but also drew on Baroque and Classical forms, and Richard Wagner, who saw himself as an innovator and wanted to realize the idea of a total work of art.
Beethoven's popularity remains unbroken to this day, and he is one of the most performed composers; his influence on subsequent composers is also undeniable. With the 5th Symphony, known as the "Fate Symphony," the Musikkollegium opens this year's autumn concert. A part of the overture from Richard Wagner's opera "Walküre" is performed as a prelude, a composer who engaged deeply with Beethoven, especially with the 5th Symphony.
In the second part, the double concerto for violin and cello and orchestra by Johannes Brahms will be performed. In the rarely used setting with two soloists, violin and cello engage in a dialogue, also with the orchestra, and can showcase their different timbres virtuously.
Brahms was declared by contemporary critics as the great counterpart to Wagner, who was 20 years his senior. Beethoven, who explored the achievements of musical forms to their depths, inspired both of these subsequent composers. The orchestra looks forward to your visit!
