"Ad nos, ad salutarem undam" S. 259 Jan Liebermann (*2005) received his first piano lessons at the age of seven and began playing the organ at twelve. He was a young student with Prof. Gerhard Gnann at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz and with Prof. Carsten Wiebusch at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Simultaneously, he received piano lessons in the master class of Prof. Dr. Lev Natochenny. He is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Martin Sander. Jan Liebermann is the 1st prize winner of the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2024, the 1st federal prize winner in the organ solo category at the "Jugend musiziert" competition 2021 with the highest score, the 2nd prize winner of the International Organ Competition Wuppertal 2023, and prize winner of the "International Young Organist Competition Moscow" 2020, the first International Organ Competition Deidesheim 2020, and the Concours International d’Orgue de Dudelange 2023. Furthermore, Jan is a special prize winner of the German Foundation for Music Life. In 2021, he also received a scholarship from the Jürgen-Ponto-Foundation Berlin. In autumn 2025, he was the first organist since the introduction of the award in 1998 to receive the Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk, awarded to him during the Bremen Music Festival.
His concert activities have taken him to major centers of organ music, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Müpa Budapest, the Essen Philharmonie, the Cathedral of Pisa, the Freiberg Cathedral, the Paderborn Cathedral, the Limburg Cathedral, the Essen Cathedral, the Münster Cathedral, the Soest Cathedral, the Freiburg Minster, and St. Michaelis Hamburg. International concert tours have also taken him to England, where he performed at York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, King’s College Cambridge, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Exeter Cathedral, Truro Cathedral, and Southwark Cathedral in London. Additionally, Jan Liebermann has been a guest at numerous renowned organ cycles, including the “Dresdner Musikfestspiele,” “Musica Bayreuth,” the “Hamburger Orgelsommer,” the “International Organ Concerts Erfurt,” the “International Hill Organ Days Berlin,” the “Victoria Hall Organ Proms” in Hanley, and the “Himmeroder Orgelsommer.” Furthermore, Jan Liebermann has been featured in the radio series “Hörprobe” by Deutschlandfunk Kultur and has been portrayed in radio (including BR-Klassik, SWR, hr2 Kultur, hr-info, radio3, Deutschlandfunk Kultur) and television programs (including rbb24 Abendschau, Landesschau Rheinland-Pfalz) due to his musical achievements.
In spring 2024, Jan Liebermann caused a sensation in the organ world when he memorized and performed all six trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach at several public concerts. For his artistic achievements and commitment, he was awarded the Kulturförderpreis 2024 by the Rotary Club Mainz. A year later, he dedicated himself to performing all Trois Préludes et Fugues by Marcel Dupré, which he also memorized and performed multiple times in public concerts. In 2025, Jan Liebermann performed several times at the Berlin Philharmonie. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Schuke organ there, he gave his celebrated solo debut and performed in another concert with the solo flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Emmanuel Pahud. Additionally, he performed in three evenings with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Andris Nelsons.
