Laboratory medicine is rapidly evolving – from classical diagnostics to a medicine that detects diseases early and better understands their development. Modern biomarkers and digital health technologies open up new possibilities to identify individual disease risks long before the first symptoms appear. Using the example of the GAPP study, the scientific flagship project of the Institute of Laboratory Medicine at UFL, the lecture shows how population-based long-term research contributes to better understanding cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative processes and actively shaping the precision medicine of tomorrow.
