This round table offers a meeting between literature and painting around Ferdinand Hodler, a major figure of Swiss art, and the perspective that Metin Arditi, writer and essayist, has on him.
Metin Arditi will invite us to rediscover Hodler through his writer's perspective: a personal and attentive look at the links between art, history, memory, and identity. His own journey, between Turkey and Switzerland, fuels a particular reflection on belonging and on how a country tells and represents itself.
In light of the exhibition Ferdinand Hodler. Profession of Faith, which explores the links between Hodler's work and religious matters, the discussion will focus on the spiritual dimension of his painting. How does Hodler transform the idea of creation and transpose it into his representation of nature? And how does this quest for unity, meditation, and elevation still resonate today?
This conversation will be an opportunity to cross the gaze of the painter and the voice of the writer, to make two sensitivities and two eras dialogue, and to renew the perspective on Ferdinand Hodler's work.
