Caroline von Gunten Floating in shared serendipity is based on a simple shift: not searching, but finding. Starting from regular, multi-hour train journeys with the most diverse people, Caroline von Gunten examines how narration and memory are created, shared, and appropriated, and which societal norms, values, and traumas are invisibly perpetuated in the process. Recorded conversations are listened to, re-listened to, and ultimately deleted. What remains is never the spoken words themselves, but what arises from them: drawing, object, text. The fellow travelers thus become co-authors of a collective archive that eludes control. The focus is on the observation that every shared story carries notions of how one may live, suffer, and belong, and who is excluded.
