It's running. On maintaining things

Description

Every day, we check, maintain, and repair countless private items and public infrastructures: the sewing machine, the bicycle, the heat pump, or the stream bed. Usually, this is hardly worth mentioning. Unless something isn't running anymore. What gestures and forms of care are behind this? The exhibition shows what is needed for things to work and examines related practices and associated knowledge. "It's running" focuses on moments when ordinary routines become meaningful rituals or even community-celebrated traditions – such as during the Aarauer Bachfischet. Because where maintenance is performed, values become visible.
The artistic works, contributions from students of cultural anthropology, and a scenography by SITO explore different forms of maintenance, tell of passing on and preserving, and open up new perspectives.
