Description
Erika Stucky is a singer, songwriter, and performer. Since the mid-1980s, her unique voice and radical stage presence have allowed her to navigate between jazz, American folk tradition, experimental music, and alpine yodeling. With over five thousand concerts across all continents, she has become one of the most unconventional figures in the international music scene. The singer-performer is now opening a very personal new chapter: a photography book nourished by over 50 years of artistic observation. Family photos, behind-the-scenes moments, snapshots taken on tour — these are glimpses of an indefatigable chronicler. This new show draws inspiration from it and lies somewhere between story-singing and song-telling. The artist synchronizes images and films on stage with songs, life stories, and tour anecdotes. Memories meet improvisation, archives blend into the present. It’s the world seen through Stucky’s eyes: raw, poetic, intimate, and unvarnished. Singer, multi-instrumentalist, performer, Erika Stucky embraces a multiplicity of musical identities. The hippie music as played in San Francisco, her hometown, accompanies her across the Atlantic to the mountain village of Haut-Valais, where she grew up from the age of nine. She immerses herself early in the traditions of Swiss popular music, studies pantomime at Teatro Dimitri, as well as comedy and jazz singing in Paris. Winner of the Swiss Music Grand Prix 2020, this Swiss-American connects her two anchors by practicing a vocal art situated between yodeling and blues. After 44 years of career, she continues to surprise us: whether with her bands, The Sophisticrats or Bubbles & Bones, as an interpreter of Jimi Hendrix with Christy Doran, or in a tribute to Woodstock by the Young Gods.
