The brass quintet Urban Brass was founded in 2016 at the Stuttgart University of Music. In the same year, it won 1st prize at the renowned Jan Koetsier Competition in Munich and established itself in the brass scene in the following years. Invitations followed, including to the Rheingau Music Festival, the Heidelberg Spring, and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. The quintet has performed in Germany and Europe with musicians such as Gábor Tarkövi or Wolfgang Bauer. In 2022, Urban Brass won the audience award at the Westphalian Music Festival Hamm. This was followed by their first CD recording, and in 2024, the album "Elation" was released, featuring works from Bach to Piazolla. With their new tubist Andrin Lüchinger (Basel), the quintet looks forward to their 10th anniversary in the 2026/27 season. The new program for 2026/27 highlights the versatility of brass literature: old masters like Johann Sebastian Bach are presented in a brilliant guise, romantic melodies and well-known sounds from opera and musical theater enchant in an unusual ensemble.
