The life stories of the house residents reflect the political upheavals of the last hundred years in Germany. A narrative of possession and loss, war and change. A summer house serves as the setting for nearly a dozen life stories from the 1920s to today. The house and its inhabitants experience the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, the war and its end, the GDR, the Wende, and the post-reunification era. Each individual fate is given its own form by Jenny Erpenbeck. Each unfolds its own drama. Together, they form a panorama of the last century that disturbs, delights, unsettles, and reconciles. The East Berlin writer Jenny Erpenbeck tells of the political upheavals in Germany. At the Badische Landesbühne, the novel becomes a multimedia performance. A perspective from outside on ourselves, as timeless as it is current.
