On Sunday, September 27th, two exhibitions will be jointly opened, each exploring the theme of orientation in very different ways:
At the Ittinger Museum, the monumental Ittinger Güterkarte from 1745 takes center stage – a masterpiece approximately 3.2 × 5 meters by Carthusian monk Josephus Wech (1702–1761), which is being shown publicly for the first time and returns to its place of origin. The exhibition "On Losing and (Re)Finding" at the Kunstmuseum Thurgau deals with orientation – in the geographical sense as well as in the biographical sense. It examines the map as an instrument of orientation in the terrain and as a metaphor for one’s own life. The two exhibitions connect the Kunstmuseum Thurgau with the Ittinger Museum. Thus, the theme of orientation in terrain and life can be explored from different perspectives across two floors stacked on top of each other. Art and history complement each other in a synergistic way. Welcome and introductions start at 11:45 a.m. After a welcome by Stefanie Hoch, Deputy Director, curator Dr. Felix Ackermann will explain the Güterkarte, and curator Miriam Edmunds will introduce the exhibition "On Losing and (Re)Finding".
