Enjoyable strolling, aimless wandering for pure leisure, cultivates a popular technique of Renaissance music: "Passeggio," derived from the Italian "passeggiare" meaning to walk, stroll, or promenade, is here used to embellish well-known melodies with improvised decorations, providing performers the opportunity to showcase their virtuosity. This approach is taken up by the young ensemble "Das Kolorit," which focuses on Southern European music from the 16th and 17th centuries using original instruments. Their program, "L’ arte di passeggiare," features ensemble members Sophia Schambeck (recorders), Mariona Mateu Carles (violone), Rosalia Gomez (harpsichord), and Leon Jänicke (theorbo and baroque guitar), along with guest violinist Jaume Guri Batlle. "We stroll through lively dance movements of the early Baroque," announces "Das Kolorit." The melodious names of the composers read like music: Dario Castello, Maurizio Cazzati, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Orlando di Lasso, Diego Ortiz, Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, and Francesca Caccini, the only female composer in this program.
