Description
Claire Huangci with Beethoven and a look to America A reunion with the American pianist Claire Huangci. She will be heard with a program that points to the Beethoven Year 2027 with two Beethoven sonatas and introduces American piano music. The artist is praised by critics for "confident and lively interpretations, intelligent and thoughtful sound design" and not least for her "breathtaking virtuosity." After Beethoven's sonatas op. 31 "The Tempest" and op. 28 "Pastorale," the focus in the second part shifts towards the New World. Claire Huangci will present Florence Price (1887 to 1953), the first African-American woman to become known as a composer of classical music in the USA. In Müllheim, she will play from Price's early work the Fantasie Nègre No. 2 in G minor, a piece inspired by a spiritual. A series of songs by George Gershwin has been transformed into spectacular piano transcriptions by the American pianist and composer Earl Wild, two of which Claire Huangci will perform. To conclude the evening, Gershwin's most famous composition "Rhapsody in Blue," arranged for solo piano by the composer himself in 1927, will be performed.
