On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death, Daniele Gatti conducts a symphonic cycle of the composer over two seasons.
The third part of the Beethoven Cycle, this concert brings together Daniele Gatti and the pianist Mao Fujita, a rising star on the international scene, around a program of great poetry.
Intimately connected to the piano, both as a composer and performer, Beethoven reveals in his Piano Concerto No. 4 a writing of great freedom. From the very first measures, the piano rises alone before engaging in a delicate, subtle, and captivating dialogue with the orchestra.
Then, with Symphony No. 6, "Pastoral," Beethoven does not merely evoke nature: through its five movements, he celebrates the serenity, deep joy, and wonder that communion with the natural world brings. A work that inspired Hector Berlioz to express these admiring words: "But Beethoven's poem!... These long periods so full of colors!... These speaking images!... These fragrances!... This light!... This eloquent silence!... These vast horizons!..."
