Description

The annual organ concert at the La Chaux-de-Fonds Music Hall has become a traditional and eagerly awaited event in Neuchâtel's cultural life. Offered free of charge by the Music Society, this event aims to highlight the grand historic organ of the Hall – an exceptional instrument with a neo-classical aesthetic built by the Kuhn manufactory – and to offer the public the discovery of a vast repertoire. The organ celebrates its 70th anniversary during the 26-27 season. Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, written in 1741, are one of the greatest monuments of the keyboard. In the transcription for organ by Jean-Luc Thellin, they change color without losing their internal logic: the grand organ of the Music Hall allows the audience to hear the architectural dimension, the clarity of the voices, and the movement of the variations from a new perspective. The work, based on an 'Aria' and thirty variations, combines dance, counterpoint science, and almost infinite imagination. Jean-Luc Thellin, an organist well-versed in baroque literature as well as transcriptions, offers a reading that highlights the breathing of the structure and the richness of the sound plans.
