Description

The future of German jazz has a name: Bundesjazzorchester or short BuJazzO. For almost 40 years, jazz Nachwuchs has been meeting in this top orchestra, which serves as a springboard for a successful music career. Well-known jazz greats such as Till Brönner, Tom Gaebel, Julia Hülsmann, Johanna Summer, Nils Wogram, and Michael Wollny started their careers here. The artistic direction has been led since this year by Theresia Philipp and the composer, arranger, trombonist, and conductor Jörn Marcussen-Wulff. He works with the young talents aged between 17 and 24 on the program for Donaueschingen. The focus is on the music of American jazz musicians Bob Brookmeyer and Thad Jones. The latter is known for swinging, captivating ensemble sounds and unconventional melodic lines. Brookmeyer incorporates influences from modern jazz and the New Music of the 1960s in his compositions and is one of the most influential figures in contemporary big band jazz. Bundesjazzorchester
