Bookbinding Course

Description

The thread sometimes breaks. The layers don't want to sit evenly. And yet – or precisely because of that – something is created in the end that is incomparable to any purchased notebook: a book that was hand-bound. Seven hours are scheduled for this – and that's what it takes. Bookbinding is not a quick course. It is a craft with sequences, drying times, and decisions that visibly influence the result. In the course, all three work steps are fully worked through: making the book block (folding, sewing, gluing, approx. 160 pages), designing the cover (open or closed, covering, endpaper) and finishing the binding (headbands, bookmarks, gluing, pressing). Course instructor Hans Mühlethaler shows how paper, color, format, gauze, and glue interact – and leaves room for individual decisions. All materials are included. No prior knowledge required.
