Description

Refined concert programs arise from complex considerations that should recede behind the musical experience at the moment of performance. The same applies to the individual compositions of such a program, which presents itself to the ear as a hopefully complete product. The questions that arise for the audience are often anticipated and answered as best as possible by the program booklet. What plays hardly any role in this proven model are your questions from the moment of listening, your reaction to the music, and also your wishes. Creating a suitable framework for this is the idea behind BETRIEBS|WERK|SCHAU, our new concert series in the rehearsal room. For each edition, a composer personality is invited to present their own chamber music work. Sung and played by the members of our ensembles and moderated by J. Marc Reichow or Ekkehard Windrich, we explore together what lies behind the work. We go as deep as you want: repeat a single passage or an entire section? Explain the meaning of certain playing or singing techniques? Express misunderstanding or criticism? Feel free, we are the KlangForum and take our name seriously. This is about the personal contact between performers and the audience, and in passing, we also want to show you where the lion's share of our work lies and takes place: not on stage, but here in the rehearsal room. It offers adequate production conditions and costs accordingly rent, but admission to BetriebsWerkSchau is free, and the atmosphere is as attentive as it is informal. As an opening ritual, each concert is preceded by a Gregorian chant – part of a great, lively repertoire that is to be (re)discovered, just like contemporary music. Oxana Omelchuk (born 1975 in Belarus) is a composer and musician living in Cologne. She studied composition and electronic composition at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Her works are performed internationally by renowned ensembles and soloists; she has received composition commissions from the German Music Council, WDR, SWR, ORF, and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. As a musician, she regularly works with analog synthesizers and combines improvisation with her compositional practice. Omelchuk has received numerous awards for her work, including the Austrian Stella*25 Prize (2025) and the Heidelberg Artist Award (2026). Since October 2025, she has been a guest professor of composition at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
